Mesa County Fire Departments are the following 13: Clifton Fire, Central Orchard Mesa Fire, East Orchard Mesa Fire, Grand Junction Rural Fire, Redlands Sub Fire, Lands End Fire, Lower Valley Fire, Palisade Rural Fire, Plateau Valley Fire, Gateway Unaweep Fire, De Beque Fire District, Grand Valley Fire Protection District, and Glade Park Volunteer Fire.

The Grand Junction Fire Department is the largest paid fire departments between Denver and Salt Lake City servicing 75 square miles of Mesa County. Currently the staff is comprised of 90 full-time employees. Firefighters respond to emergencies from four fire stations located throughout the City of Grand Junction. In addition to emergency response activities, the Grand Junction Fire Department is very active in training, fire inspections, pre-fire planning and public education. The Operations Division is the largest amongst the Grand Junction Fire Department. This division is responsible for for emergency medical services, fire suppression, mitigation of disasters, and rescue activities. Specialized units within the Operations Division include the Hazardous Materials Response Team, Confined Space Rescue, Rope Rescue, and Trench Rescue.
